Suited tile
Suited tile
A tile that turns a tenpai hand into an agari is called a wait.
This hand reaches agari when 2-sou or 5-sou turns 34-sou into a sequence. So the waits are 2-sou and 5-sou.
The waits depend on the shape of the remaining tiles. There are five wait shapes: ryanmen, kanchan, penchan, tanki, and shanpon.
Ryanmen, kanchan, and penchan keep the shape of a taatsu. Shanpon waits with two toitsu, and tanki with a single leftover tile.
Of these, ryanmen has the most waiting tiles. Let’s learn ryanmen in the next lesson.
